&lt;p&gt;I had the same issue. It is not intuitive. You actually need to load up the entire directory that the photos are in (it loads directories, not individual files).  Once you do that, the directory contents are listed on the right above the button.  Highlight a photo then click the "recognize plate" button and it will try to solve the plate.&lt;/p&gt;
