&lt;p&gt;I am developing a non linear video editor based on DV.&lt;br /&gt;
Many effects require an alpha channel. It would save a&lt;br /&gt;
significant amount of time if dv_decode_full_frame&lt;br /&gt;
would support decoding to an rgb or yuv colorspace&lt;br /&gt;
including an alpha channel. Equally good would be to&lt;br /&gt;
just give the number of  channels per pixel. If this&lt;br /&gt;
defaults to 3, decode to rgb would behave like usual&lt;br /&gt;
and if it is set to 4 it would leave a byte after each&lt;br /&gt;
set of three bytes.&lt;/p&gt;
