For those who came here looking for a solution to the same problem. As per my previous thoughts, the problem was really regarding to modifyvm command. To modify VM config, it has to be stopped. However, it is possible to change session config keeping VM config unchanged. The key is to use controlvm like bellow: VBoxManage controlvm "w10" vrde off Adm privilege isn't necessary. I need to activate/deactivate vrde feature on running VMs, but when I run "VBOXManage modifyvm VM --vrde off" I get a session lock error (VBOX_E_INVALID_OBJECT_STATE). I'm running VirtualBox 6.1.4 on CentOS8 (both host and guest) and phpVirtualbox 6.0 on a box with 128GB RAM and 24 CPU cores. The only things running are the host and on VM. Aaron, phpVirtualBox was moved to GitHub, so recommend you post future questions there. The config.php file has a setting for what IP address VRDP should listen on. I tried running Virtual Box 5.2 along phpvirtualbox 5.2, I intalled the extension pack and configured the config.php file correctly, but still I had the issue of not being to access any vm because Vbox would think that the best IP to reach it was 127.0.0.1. Then I thought I had messed something up and wiped off the hard drive, reinstalled Ubuntu server, and installed vbox 6.0.22 since 6.1 isnt compatible. Well... I was on the wrong track, thinking that this has anything to do with the libvncserver issue. I'm using RDP, and obviously this makes no use of any VNC library... The question remains why I can't fully shut down certain VMs and if this is related to phpVirtualBox. I'm looking setup access to phpVB Console and RDP over the internet (when I'm on the road) with TLS instead of VPN. To that end, I've setup phpVB behind TLS on port 443. I have that NAT'd behind my firewall on 8443. That works great. I can create VMs they run, I see the little Console preview window get updated. I am running an ubuntu server 16.04 LTS with virtualbox 5.2 and phpvirtualbox 5.2. All the necessary ports are open. I see the machine on my router - meaning machine is running. Neither the console nor my RDP client can access the machine. On top: the preview window turns black shortly after boot-up. I'm trying to get the audio working when using macOS Microsoft Remote Desktop (RDP). Audio Settings were left at their ALSA Audio Driver and Intel HD Audio defaults. Sound works with a Windows 10 VM but not with Ubuntu VMs. I noticed the phpVirtualBox setting for Windows 10 Audio includes PulseAudio as an option, but not for Ubuntu. Although Windows 10 sound is working with ALSA Audio Driver (the default). How critical are these audio settings? And what should they be?
