I tried MS DISKPART first, but found that I was unable to extend my primary partition into unallocated space. GParted did the job fast and efficiently and saved me many headaches. I thank everyone involved for a marvelous utility.

This is about Gparted Live distro. The creators of Gparted have some grudge against wireless. There is no wpasupplicant, and it cannot be obtained by apt-get with the default server in Taiwan. There are no wireless options in Network Manager, no other wifi software provided. This is ridiculous in 2018! Are there some obscure laws in Taiwan against providing wifi software? I suppose it's easy enough to retrieve from some other Debian server, but if you are a beginner panicking about messed up partitions, the last thing you want to worry about is manually installing wireless network software. Truthfully, I would rate gparted itself five stars. I've certainly been tempted to give at least a token donation. But I am so frustrated about this issue which continues into 2018. There are enough five star ratings so that my rating is but a tiny blip. I just want to draw attention to this bizarre state of affairs.

Love Gparted for rescuing/reallocating CentOS installs. I was really excited when I noticed that LVM was finally going to be supported. But all the versions of the lived cd up through gparted-live 0.14.1-6 DON'T load the lvm2 module to allow you to do anything with it. It would be great if the next drop addressed that.

Would love if Fedora's anaconda, or the installer for UBUNTU implemented the GUI interface as presented by gparted. Graphically, I could assign boot where I want, home where I want, etc. So right now, I use GParted to redo or resize or recreate mbrs or partition layouts. A fantastic tool.

Hello, I use the newest live version of GParted, because I want to partition usb sticks. With elder sticks it functions, but a newer stick “Kingston DataTraveler G3 USB Device” makes problems. Both "GParted" and the utility "parted" of the Debian Linux of the live version writes the following error message: Assertion (head.size <=63) at …./libparted/labels/dos.c 602 probe_partition_for_geom() failed So I believe, that the version of "parted" on the "Linux debian 3.2.0-2-486" (uname -a) of the live version is to old. "GParted" seems to be innocent ! Best Regards Marc

This is one software I can really swear by to save me in difficult times. I gave up using floppy drives more than 12 years ago. I gave up on CD.DVD s about 2 years ago. I do all my OS installations from USB flash drives. And in dicey situation I use write protected SD cards in card readers, even to boot from. I am not sue if others have experienced this but I use YUMI from PenDriveLinux to create multiboot flash drives to install Win 7 and a whole lot of other bootable options + portable apps + wpi. Windows ( at least version 7) has a nasty habit of turning off the boot flag on such a prepared flash drive if used on a running Win7 system rendering it UNBOOTABLE. To recover from this I permanently have on hand a write protected live gparted sd card+reader from which I boot. Once fully booted I insert my special flash drive and refresh the devices. Set the boot flag under flag management and put it away for the next time I may have to repeat the procedure. This is the one and only reliable utility I have found that can do perfect job of doing this apart from all the other partitions related operations like partitioning. formatting ( including NTFS) moving, resizing, etc. @Sandmeier - There is nothing wrong with gparted. It si the only one that evn recognises my 1080p TV connected as monitor for the correct resolution. There is nothing wromng with gParted not the DataTraveler..The problem is with USB chipset. I some how have a feeling that you have an AMD chipset motherboard which has absolutely horrendous USB support. I never could get that combo to work right on my Quad Phenom MSI sysyem. Always gave me all sorts of problems and errors. Neither MSI nor AMD had any answer to that. No kind of USB device ever worked right. I suggest you put a good USB hub in between and you just might be able to get it working. Just because of this I replaced my motherboard with an nVidia chipset one and have sworn never to to buy any product for either of them. My only wish is that they develop a utility that can run directly under windows and be able to simply set the boot flag. I have been looking for one for the past 3 years and it has been an excercise in futility.

There is no other partitioning tool that supports as many file systems. The resizing of Windows Partitions is extremely inefficient when compared to Acronis Disk Director. I've had a lot of stability issues with this program. It's also worked dozens of times for me. Either way make absolutely sure you've backed up your partition prior to resizing any partitions with this tool.
